Brasov City Hall, Tampa hill letters to be illuminated in Ukrainian flag colours

Published on

Brasov joins for the third time the cities in Europe and in the country that illuminate in the colours of the Ukrainian flag buildings or known locations, on August 23 and 24, to mark State Flag Day and Ukrainian Independence Day, as a sign of solidarity and compassion, two years and six months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On Friday evening, the building of the Brasov City Hall will be illuminated in blue and yellow, and on Saturday the letters on the Tampa will light up in the same symbolic colours of the Ukrainian flag.

„We highly appreciate the efforts of the City Hall, the business community and the civil society of Brasov to support the Ukrainian citizens who have found shelter in your city. (…) We are convinced that the efforts of the Brasov community will continue to strengthen the good-neighbourly relations between Ukraine and Romania, as well as contribute to a peaceful, resilient and united Europe,” reads a letter addressed to Mayor Allen Coliban by Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Prokopchuk, quoted in a briefing from the Brasov City Hall.

The Ukrainian flag was officially adopted for the first time in history in 1918. Ukraine’s Independence Day, celebrated annually on August 24, is also the national day marking the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
