Loans to non-government sector granted by credit institutions up 0.9pct in July 2024

At end-July 2024, loans to non-government sector granted by credit institutions increased 0.9% (0.3% in real terms) from June 2024 to RON 403,953.2 million, according to data with the National Bank of Romania (BNR) released on Monday.

RON-denominated loans, making up 69.5% of total volume of loans to the non-government sector, grew by 1.3%, whilst foreign currency-denominated loans, holding 30.5% of total loans to the non-government sector, went down 0.2% when stated in RON (-0.1% when stated in EUR).

In year-on-year comparison, loans to the non-government sector advanced 6.8% (1.3% in real terms), on the back of an 8.8% increase in RON-denominated loans (3.2% in real terms) and a 2.6% rise in foreign currency-denominated loans stated in RON (1.7% when stated in EUR).

At end-July 2024, credit to general government granted by credit institutions increased by 2.7% from June 2024, to RON 217,456.8 million. In year-on-year comparison, this indicator grew by 20.8% (14.6% in real terms).

Broad money (M3) at end-July 2024 amounted to RON 688,155.9 million, up 0.5% (-0.1% in real terms) on a monthly basis. In year-on-year comparison, M3 rose by 10.6% (4.9% in real terms).
