PM Ciolacu: There can be more suitable people both in my and in Nicolae Ciuca’s stead

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that there are people more qualified than him for the position of prime minister or national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), and also for the position of chairman of the Senate and of the National Liberal Party (PNL), after PNL’s Ciuca said that there are even better solutions for European commissioner on behalf of Romania than Roxana Minzatu.

„I saw that there were also better people. You should know that in his stead and in my stead there are more qualified people, also head of PNL, head of PSD and prime ministers and heads of the Senate,” Ciolacu said at the House of Parliament.

He added that he had discussions about the European commissioner with President Klaus Iohannis, but there is no question of him agreeing to the nomination.

„We are not talking about agreements. For example, President Klaus Iohannis did not call me when he appointed the commissioner last time, but institutionally these discussions took place. I believe that Mrs Roxana Minzatu is a very suitable person. That they could have been even more suitable, I repeat, even in my stead as prime minister there can be more suitable people and in the place of Mr. Nicolae Ciuca in the Senate there can be more suitable people. It’s a normal thing. What is important, however, is the opinion that the president of the European Commission had, which was a laudatory one towards Mrs Roxana Minzatu after an hour and a half of interview, the prime minister said.
