President of the Senate Nicolae Ciuca, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), announces that a code of practices for reporting acts of violence and sexual harassment will be presented at the parliamentary level and at the same time a set of legislative measures will be initiated „to combat this scourge”.
He was asked, on Wednesday evening, on TVR Info, how he comments on the accusations brought by the prosecutors against the former teacher from SNSPA Alfred Bulai.
„It is absolutely unacceptable. We discussed with the Minister of Justice, with the Minister of Education and very soon we are preparing an event at the level of the Senate in which to present a code of practices for reporting acts of violence and sexual harassment. In Romania, from the data we have, on a scale from 1 to 10, there is great fear and concern about this inhuman behavior, this scourge. I am convinced that, as happened in the case of Bulai, the state institutions, the state antibodies, must react and do their duty. From a legislative point of view (…) we discussed with [Justice] minister Gorghiu to come up with that set of legislative measures, for which I have no limit, to be introduced in the legal provisions to combat this scourge,” the PNL leader declared.
Sociologist Alfred Bulai, former professor at SNSPA, was detained, on Wednesday, after being questioned at the 2nd Police Station in the Capital in the case of abuse of office for sexual purposes and sexual assault. According to some judicial sources, he has the status of a suspect and did not want to give statements to the police, availing himself of the right to remain silent.
On Wednesday, the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office next to the 1st District Court searched Alfred Bulai’s home and car.
Also on Wednesday, raids took place at the residences of two other people.
The investigators carry out investigations in rem regarding suspicions regarding the commission of the crimes of abuse of office for sexual purposes and sexual aggression.
According to a journalistic investigation carried out by the Snoop website, Alfred Bulai allegedly sexually harassed several female students.
