Romanian companies to be able to export agri-food products to Israel

Published on

Romanian companies will be able to export agri-food products to Israel, after the trade barriers are eliminated, namely observing Israeli standards, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Economy and Tourism Stefan-Radu Oprea announced on a social media page on Friday.

Oprea is paying a working visit to the State of Israel alongside Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

„Together with Nir Brakat, Economy and Industry Minister [of Israel], we set clear ways through which we can fast increase the level of commercial exchanges. We identified two priority directions: the defence industry and agri-food products, in the case of the defence industry, there is an interest on behalf of Israeli companies in investing and transferring technology to Romania, and in the agri-food products case, there is the interest in importing in Israel. The good news for the Romanian companies wanting to export to Israel is that the trade barriers represented by observing Israeli standards will be removed. Any product made in the European Union will be able to be traded in Israel,” Oprea mentioned on Facebook.

According to the minister, besides the two priority areas where economic missions will be organised, through which Israeli companies will visit Romania in September – November, other fast growing potential sectors have been identified, such as: IT/Cybersecurity, tourism, as well as communications and information technology, with a focus on collaboration among start-ups in technology, including in new product research-development.

Official data show Romania-Israel commercial exchanges amounted to 953.73 million dollars in 2023, with Romanian exports worth 776.93 million dollars and imports in the amount of 176.80 million dollars.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has been since Thursday, September 5, on a working visit to the State of Israel, accompanied by a governmental delegation made up of Defence Minister Angel Tilvar, Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu, Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Minister Radu Oprea and MP Silviu Vexler.
