UDMR picks national leader Kelemen as their presidential candidate

National leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor on Friday was appointed the union’s candidate to run for Romania’s presidency by the union’s leading Council of Union Representatives (CRU).

„Today, I was tasked by my colleagues to be a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, and I said that my option matters less, that the interest and point of view of the majority and the interest of our political community are important. I will be the UDMR candidate in the 2024 presidential election and I am convinced in the runup to the election, we will also be able to bring up important issues for every person, for Romanians, for Hungarians, for every person in Romania, for every community, because there are very serious problems that have to be discussed and that also have to be solved,” Kelemen said after a CRU meeting.

He added that the main problem in Romania is the lack of trust.

„I think first of all about the lack of confidence. The lack of trust in society, between society and the state, between the common man and the state bodies; wherever we go we see that people are curious, dissatisfied, because they are not treated properly, fairly and with dignity by the vast majority of state bodies.”
