The number of investors on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) has doubled in the last three years, from about 100,000 to over 200,000, and the number of investors in open-ended investment funds has increased to 700,000, Horia Gusta, chairman of the Association of Fund Managers (AAF), told a debate on Tuesday.
„About three years ago, the number of investors on the Bucharest Stock Exchange was about 100,000 and the number of investors in open-ended funds was about 400,000. Today we see that these numbers have almost doubled. That is, there are over 200,000 BVB investors and over 700,000 fund investors. So, we are talking about almost double amounts. And from the point of view of assets, also, at the end of July, according to the data we have today, investment in open-ended investment funds is at a record high, which means that we are on the right track. It means that your efforts to talk about funds, to talk about the performance of funds and to make known the concept of investment fund is one that bears fruit,” Gusta told a debate with investment fund managers on the performance of investment funds in H1 2024 hosted by BVB.
In his turn, BVB general manager Adrian Tanase said that as far as direct capital market investment, there is an increase in the number of accounts.
„We have reached over 200,000 accounts, which again makes us very happy. We need to reach a much higher level given the economically active population in Romania.”
He mentioned added that in the open-ended fund industry there is a record high number of investors, over 800,000, and the assets are close to EUR 10 billion.
