The Minister of Education Ligia Deca considers that the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report „Education at a Glance” confirms the need for social and resilience scholarships, as well as the expansion of the nursery and kindergarten network.

The annual report provides information on the state of education in the 38 OECD member states and a number of partner countries, according to a press release sent by the Ministry of Education. The publication contains over 120 diagrams and 180 tables, and its indicators reflect: the impact of learning on economic and social results, financial and human resources invested in education, access to education, participation and progress, as well as the learning environment and organization of schools.

”OECD publications are a very important source of comparative data for substantiating public policies. This year’s edition of the Education at a Glance 2024 report confirms the need for social and resilience scholarships, shows us the importance of the ‘First student in the family’ program and substantiates our efforts expanding the network of nurseries and kindergartens. I am convinced that the values of Romania’s quality and equity indicators will continue to improve, in 3-5 years we will see the results of the application of the new education laws and the progress of our country”, declared Minister Deca.

The Secretary General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann, stated that although the level of education and the results on the labor market have improved in many OECD countries, this year’s report reveals that there are still „challenges”.

Expanding access to and quality of education will enable countries to harness the untapped potential of underrepresented groups for the benefit of their societies and economies. It will also help ensure that students from vulnerable families can catch up and are equipped with the tools and skills necessary to adapt to the ever-evolving needs of the labor market.The latest edition of our publication Education at a Glance provides policy makers with recommendations to help improve equality of educational opportunity by improving access to early childhood education. high quality, solving the problem of the lack of teaching staff and a better alignment of educational systems with the needs of the labor market, according to Mathias Cormann.

The national event to launch the report took place on Tuesday, in the context of the global launch of the OECD publication. This year’s edition has as its theme „Equity in education”.
