Limits, not acceptable when it comes to driving under influence of psychoactive substances (Justice minister)

Published on

Justice minister Alina Gorghiu said on Friday that the idea of limits when it comes to driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances is not acceptable.

„Today [Friday, editor’s note],I was at Jilava Penitentiary. I have seen here many, too many detainees with a life ruined by drugs. I talked to two of them today. And behind them there are broken families. My dears, drugs don’t make you high, they make you low. Same with driving. The idea of limits is not acceptable when it comes to driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances. A person behind the wheel who has consumed substances is a danger. Zero tolerance! This is what the legislator wanted to convey through the text of the law which criminalized driving under the influence of psychoactive substances,” wrote Alina Gorghiu on her Facebook page.

She added that, together with her fellow Liberals, she submitted three laws this year to protect young people from drugs: „the law by which high-risk drug traffickers can no longer receive suspended sentences, the law to set up the Traffickers’ Register and the law to set up eight regional centers for the treatment of drug users.”

On September 16, the High Court of Cassation and Justice is expected to decide, through the Panel for Preliminary Ruling on Questions of Law, whether it is necessary to impose a drug driving limit, as it is for alcohol.
