IntMin says zero tolerance to drug use

Published on

The Interior Ministry’s policy is „zero tolerance” for drug use in general and driving in general, said Minister Catalin Predoiu on Monday.

He was asked by journalists about the debate at the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) on criminalising drug use. The Supreme Court’s legal panel is due to rule on Monday on whether it is necessary to impose a threshold for the offense of driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, as is the case for alcohol.

„We’ll see what the ICCJ will say. All I can say is that the policy of the Interior Ministry is zero tolerance for drug use in general and when driving implicitly,” Predoiu said.

The minister added that he cannot comment on a decision that is being discussed by judges. „It is not fair to do this. We have a judgment pending. All I can say as interior minister is that this is the ministry’s policy based on the laws in force. The laws in force provide for zero tolerance to drug use,” Catalin Predoiu emphasised.
