The man who set fire to a room in the Palace of the Parliament was placed in preventive custody on Wednesday for 30 days.

He was detected and detained on Tuesday night, after the police appealed to the public to find him and published images of the man.

He risks a prison sentence of up to 7 years for committing the crime of „destroying, degrading or rendering an asset unusable, committed by arson, explosion or any other such means and if it is of a nature to endanger other persons or goods”.

The man set fire to some goods he had in the area of a souvenir shop in the Parliament Palace, located near the ‘Constantin Brancusi’ Exhibition Hall, after which he left the scene.

The Gendarmerie mentioned the fact that in the area where the incident took place access is free, according to the Access Regulation in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, up to the control and security filters. According to the quoted source, the man did not enter the security area inside the building.

On Tuesday, the firefighters with the Parliament Palace went to the affected area to extinguish the fire and measures were taken to evacuate people.
