Romania’s Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu has presented, in Toronto, Canada, Romania’s experience in promoting equal opportunities, combatting discrimination and stereotypes, eliminating all forms of violence and abuse.

She recently participated in the Women Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Toronto organised by the Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, and the Jamaican Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith.

The discussions focused on two themes – „Women in Public Spaces: Politics, Leadership and Governance,” and „Women Leaders in the Age of Disinformation.”

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), in her remarks Odobescu reiterated the importance MAE attaches to equal opportunities in Romanian diplomacy, which has led to parity between women and men, both in terms of the MAE staff as a whole and in terms of leading positions in the ministry.

She also presented Romania’s experience in promoting equal opportunities, combatting discrimination and stereotypes, eliminating all forms of violence and abuse.

The Romanian official also pointed to the importance of combatting disinformation and manipulation actions targeting women in leadership positions and, in general, the role of women in the public space.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Odobescu met some of her counterparts and Canadian officials. Also, there was a meeting with leaders of the Romanian community of Toronto and a group of students from York University, at a course held by university lecturer Dan Berbecel.
