Maximum flow of Danube entering Romania to be 8,000 cubic meters/s on September 29-30; no special problems predicted

Published on

The maximum forecast flow of the Danube at the entrance to the country will be 7,900 – 8,000 cubic meters/second, in the interval of September 29-30 and, based on current information, the possibility of special problems as a result of the spread of floods on the Romanian sector is not forecast, the Romanian National Water Administration (ANAR) announced on Monday.

„Our intervention crews have already filled thousands of sandbags, some of which have already been brought close to the Romanian sector of the Danube, as well as other intervention equipment. At the same time, hydrometric gauges are being installed at high waters. Near the town of Bechet, Romanian Waters Jiu has deployed necessary hardware for the intervention at the Danube-Nedeia Working Group. With the increase in the Danube’s levels, the Danube’s intervention groups will be doubled with hydrotechnical agents for monitoring the Danube dikes”, explains ANAR.

The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet and experts from the Romanian Waters and representatives of the Department for Emergency Situations are flying over the areas of the country where the risk of flooding is higher, starting from Monday, on a helicopter.
