EduMin Deca: Early childhood education is the cornerstone of our children’s development

Early childhood education is the cornerstone of children’s development, which is why any investment in that area is, in fact, an investment in the future, Education Minister Ligia Deca said on Tuesday.

„Early childhood education is the cornerstone of our children’s development and, therefore, any investment in that area is, in fact, an investment in the future. That was also one of the main subjects of the discussions at the international conference ‘A Bright Future Beyond Borders: Investing in Early Childhood Education and Care,’ which I had the pleasure of participating in this morning, an event organised in Chisinau by the UNICEF Offices in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia,” Deca wrote in a social media post.

According to the minister, Romania has understood the importance of early childhood education, and the new Law on Pre-University Education reflects that

„We have expanded the network of nurseries and kindergartens on European funds, as well as with the support of the World Bank, and we have gradually reduced the age of entry into compulsory education: early kindergarten will become compulsory from 2030.”

Deca added that it is necessary for early childhood education to develop in close connection with the university environment and with pedagogical high schools and that is why there will be a training route dedicated to early childhood education teachers.

„Romania remains close to the Republic of Moldova, including in terms of the development of the education sector – the close collaboration we already have is an important step so that, together, we can find solutions to the problems our systems are facing.”
