Wholesale trade turnover down by 0.7% seven months into 2024

The turnover in wholesale trade (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased, between January 1 and July 31, 2024, compared to the same period last year, both as a gross series by 0.7% and as a series adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality by 0.5%, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

On a gross basis, the evolution of trade businesses was influenced by the decrease in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-10.7%), intermediation activities in wholesale trade (-8.9%), wholesale of consumer goods other than food (-7.6%) and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (-1.3%).
Increases were recorded in non-specialized wholesale (+15.2%), specialized wholesale of other products (+7.6%), wholesale of computer equipment and telecommunications (+6.6%) and wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+4.3%).
