The Government will remain as involved as ever in all the procedural steps that still need to be taken for Romania’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said during talks with US Ambassador in Bucharest Kathleen Kavalec at the Victoria Governmental Palace on Tuesday, according to a Government press release.

According to the source, the steps taken by Romania to join the Visa Waiver Program were the main topic discussed at the meeting between Prime Minister Ciolacu and the US ambassador to Romania.

According to the Government’s analysis, the main technical aspects that had to be fulfilled by Romania in order to finalise this process have been achieved, this will be confirmed by the US team of experts that will carry out an evaluation visit in Romania in November 2024, the source said.

„I thank the ambassador and all those involved in the process of reducing the refusal rate – the companies that supported this campaign, the Romanian citizens and the administration staff who contributed to this process. The Romanian Government will remain as involved as ever in everything that means accomplishing all the procedural steps that still need to be taken to achieve this major objective,” said Prime Minister Ciolacu, as quoted in the release.

In her turn, the US ambassador in Bucharest thanked the Romanian Government and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu for the effective dialogue and constructive decisions made to achieve the goal of joining the Visa Waiver Program.

„Romania remains firmly committed to the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America, and inviting our country to the Visa Waiver Program will deepen bilateral cooperation in the area of business and tourism exchanges,” the release also reads.

The Government also mentioned that Romania took several measures to meet the criteria for joining the Visa Waiver Program.
