National chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said on Monday that the political dialogue with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) no longer exists and that the Liberals stay in power in order to continue to be the watchdogs of democracy and freedom.
„It was an operative break that at the moment has resulted in interrupting any political dialogue with PSD. We stay in power because it is what we have committed ourselves to and we must ensure in the next two, two months and a half – for how long it takes for the final decision of the Romanians’ vote – we need to continue to protect and be the guardians of democracy and freedom, to make sure, as we have always done, that PSD does not have any decision regarding both the flat income tax or the way in which financial resources are managed, so that the money does not go to a certain sector of activity, so that we do not have interference in justice. All these issues determine us to stay in power but as far as political dialogue is concerned, it no longer exists,” Ciuca told B1 TV private broadcaster.
He explained that there is no longer a way of dialogue with PSD.
„We had some political objectives together about the European commissioner and the elimination of inequities from the military pension system, we also discussed solving the problems of the new pension law aimed at miners a(…) those were the issues that in the end materialised in that dialogue. It doesn’t matter the subject, you can’t show up and say that you didn’t talk to me, I can’t help but tell the truth, I am telling the truth.”
The PNL leader added that if Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu were to call him or send him a message, he would not answer him.
He said that there is a technical stuff designated to solve the governance problems, which includes the PNL deputy prime minister, the party’s secretary general and the Liberal ministers.
Ciuca also spoke about the Constitutional Court s decision in the case of Diana Sosoaca’s presidential bid.
„(…) There is a certain joy in the PSD camp because there are practically the premises in place for the PSD leader to advance to the second round together with the national leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) here is a new formula of political coalition, here is a new formula of PSD-AUR government and I believe that Romanians are sufficiently vigilant.”
In his opinion, PSD national leader Marcel Ciolacu’s statements regarding his appointment as prime minister if the Social Democrat leader wins the presidential elections show „a bit of desperation”.
„To me, it is very clear that this way in which they are trying to advance to the second round with George Simion is nothing more than a replication of what happened in 2000, when President Iliescu made it to the second round with Vadim Tudor and it was clear that Romanians were choosing anyone but Vadim Tudor. It leads me to draw a very simple conclusion: the only candidate they are afraid of is me (…) they show a bit of desperation and I can announce without any hesitation that Nicolae Ciuca will never again be prime minister in a PSD Government or together with PSD.”
Ciuca also said that after the elections he would form a coalition with the right-wing forces and that in this regard he has dialogues with their leaders. He also said that he does not want a coalition with PSD after the elections.
He said that Marcel Ciolacu disappointed him and that, looking back, he would not make a coalition with PSD.
The PNL leader added that he will definitely advance to the second round of the presidential election and so will Ciolacu.
