Interior Ministry to start national human trafficking information, prevention campaign

Published on

Romania’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MAI) starts on Monday a national campaign to inform about and prevent human trafficking and labour exploitation of Romanian citizens who go to work abroad, called „Far from home? We want you safe”, which will take place between October 14 and 18 as part of the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings, annually observed on October 18.

„The campaign is the result of a collaboration between the Justice and Care Romania international organisation, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MAI), Romania’s General Border Police Inspectorate (IGPF) and Romania’s National Agency against Trafficking in Persons (ANITP),” MAI reported on Friday.

Attending the start on October 14 will be Justice and Care Romania officials, British Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Rebecca Shah, as well as MAI officials.

Discussions will be held with Romanian nationals travelling abroad and informative materials will be distributed on the rights of Romanian employees abroad and the rights of victims of human trafficking.

Justice and Care Romania and MAI will distribute to Romanians travelling in Europe on the land border at Nadlac, Bors, Cenad, Petea and at the main international airports in Romania – Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi, Timisoara, Sibiu – 20,000 leaflets with important information for the safety of Romanian citizens.

The initiative is supported by the British Embassy in Bucharest, being part of a project implemented by Justice and Care Romania in the field of prevention of human trafficking, and victim assistance, funded by the UK Home Office.
