Climate Change Summit/PM Ciolacu: Climate change – a reality we live every day

Published on

The government takes an active role both in preventing and combating the effects of climate change, as well as in adapting the national economy and the Romanian society to them, said prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, at the Climate Change Summit 2024 event taking place in Bucharest, October 15-17.

Climate change is no longer a problem of the distant future, but a reality that we live every day, added the head of Executive.

„In recent decades, but especially in recent years, we have witnessed an acceleration of the devastating effects of climate change. Romania, along with many other countries, has already felt these challenges this very year. We thus see that climate change is no longer a problem of the distant future, but a reality that we live every day,” said the PM, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

According to him, the Government of Romania takes an active role both in preventing and combating the effects of climate change, as well as in adapting the national economy and the Romanian society to them.

„The Government is taking action in this area considering two components: public policy proposals and the attraction of international funding, both for the transformation of the economy and for the protection of the vulnerable population, as we want to get sure that no one is left behind. We are committed to creating a proper environment for the development of sustainable technologies, providing support and incentives for companies investing in green solutions and reducing their carbon footprint. In this way, we ensure that Romania, in addition to sustainable economic development, becomes even more competitive in the long run and that we can face global climate challenges. We need solid international cooperation, but also partnerships between states, companies, local communities and citizens, demonstrating that such collaborations can accelerate the development of real solutions, adjusted to the local context, but with a global impact. Romania is ready to be part of the solution and to contribute to international efforts. We are committed to closely collaborate with our partners in the European Union, with the United Nations and with all the countries present at this summit to achieve our common goals,” added the prime minister.

The Chancellery of the Prime Minister, in partnership with Social Innovation Solutions, launched on Tuesday the „Climate Change Summit,” the largest event in Central and Eastern Europe focusing on actions against climate change.

The Summit takes place from October 15 to October 17 and brings together global experts in fields such as energy, agriculture, sustainable cities, biodiversity and sustainable finance, in the context of geopolitical and geoeconomic transformations, at a critical moment when societies are reassessing their perspective on the future they want for themselves.

The next two days of the Climate Change Summit are dedicated to conferences, workshops and round tables in over 30 locations in the Capital and in the region.

Thus, on Wednesday, the Victor Palace will be the host of the ESG Leaders Forum, an essential session within the Climate Change Summit focusing topics of interest such as: green financing solutions, the transformation of cities in a sustainable way, the adaptation of public policies to the climate crisis, sustainability education and technological innovations aimed at reducing the carbon footprint. Sessions dedicated to industries such as regenerative agriculture, renewable energy and solutions for the circular economy will also be organized, the release states.

This year’s summit will attract nearly 1 million global viewers and thousands of physical attendees, providing a unique platform for relevant discussions and collaboration between leaders in various fields.
