Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) net flows in Romania in 2021 stood at 8.94 billion euros, of which 6.747 billion euros enterprises’ equity, according to the National Bank of Romania (BNR), according to Agerpres.
BNR in cooperation with the National Institute of Statistics, conducted the statistical survey regarding foreign direct investment (FDI), the main data source for FDI Statistics.
„The major goal of the statistical survey was to determine FDI net flows during the 2021 financial year, net income from FDI in 2021, as well as FDI position as at 31 December 2021 into resident direct investment enterprises,” according to BNR.
FDI net flows in 2021 stood at 8.94 billion euros, of which: 6.747 billion euros enterprises’ equity (equity capital worth 2.165 billion euros, plus reinvestment of earnings worth 4.582 billion euros); 2.194 billion euros debt transactions with foreign direct investors and non-resident fellow companies (debt less claims).
FDI stock as at 31 December 2022 amounted to 100.288 billion euros of which: 70.257 billion euros equity positions, including reinvestment of earnings (70.1 percent); 30.031 billion euros debt positions in relation to foreign direct investors and non-resident fellow companies (debt less claims) (29.9 percent).
Income from FDI in 2021 amounted to 8.894 billion euros, out of which: net earnings from equity 8.302 billion euros, representing the direct investors’ share in the net profit, worth 11.008 billion euros, of FDI enterprises, less their share in the loss, 2.705 billion euros, of FDI enterprises.
Net income from interest computed by subtracting from the interest received by foreign direct investors on lending to their enterprises in Romania, the interest paid by foreign direct investors for the borrowing from their enterprises in Romania – either directly or via fellow companies, stood at 592 million euros.
