Digitisation minister: In today’s digital world, cybersecurity collaboration is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity

Our world is more connected than ever, and cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and in this context, collaboration in cybersecurity is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitisation Bogdan-Gruia Ivan told a specialist conference on Tuesday.

„This conference comes at a crucial moment for Romania as we are actively implementing the government cloud and developing our online public services. We are currently investing more than 6 billion euro in Romania’s digital transformation, with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Our world is more connected than ever and cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The AI strategy occupies a crucial role in the Romanian digital ecosystem.(…) Even beyond our borders, we are witnessing the most technologically advanced warfare in recent history. In this context, Romania is committed to building a strong cybersecurity culture here at home. We have a national cybersecurity strategy and a robust institution dedicated to protecting our critical infrastructure. Our dedicated experts work day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute to protect Romania and our critical infrastructure. Our security partnership within NATO is crucial, especially in the area of cyber security. In today’s digital world, cybersecurity collaboration is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity,” Ivan said at the Bucharest Cybersecurity Conference 2024.

He added that we need to make sure that the IT infrastructure is well protected and stressed that, in his opinion, partnerships with national and international organisations experienced in cyber security, „together with „Romanian talents,” will allow Romania to become a cyber security hub.

Bogdan-Gruia Ivan mentioned that the Romanian legislation in the cybersecurity area has been strengthened by establishing very clear deadlines for reporting and assessing cyber threats, the consolidation of the legal framework being essential for improving defence, increasing institutional coordination and better protection of citizens’ data.

National and international cybersecurity experts from the private, public, academic and private sectors are meeting for three days at the Bucharest Cybersecurity Conference 2024, one of the largest cybersecurity events in Romania.

The aim of the conference, taking place October 29-31, is to explore how the European Union is securing its digital future in the face of current threats, including cyber and hybrid threats, in a global context marked by evolving risks.

BCC2024 is an international conference organised by the National Directorate for Cybersecurity (DNSC), with the support of the National Coordination Centre (NCC-RO) and the National Association for the Information Systems Security (ANSSI), in collaboration with the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC).
