Romania’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Thursday asked for the establishment of a task force see the conditions for setting up a logistics centre in Castellon, Spain, in collaboration with the local government, through which additional assistance can be provided to Romanians in Spain affected by the recent floods.

On Thursday, Ciolacu led a meeting by a task force to support Romanians in Spain affected by floods.

According to the government, it is in permanent contact with the Spanish authorities and has conveyed its full availability to provide support for managing the effects of the floods that affected the country.

„We stand with all those affected by the serious floods in Spain, many of them Romanians who work, live or study in the country. Everyone must know that the Romanian state takes care of its citizens, no matter where they are. I have asked the ministries to set up a task force to see under what conditions we can set up in Castellon, in collaboration with the Spanish authorities, a logistics centre through which the Romanian state can offer Romanians in Spain affected by floods additional aid to what the Spanish state offers,” Ciolacu told a governmental meeting at the Government House.

He called on the ministries to keep in touch with the Spanish authorities and with the Romanians in Spain, to provide support, including by ensuring transport for repatriation, in case there will be such requests.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neac; Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu; Head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery Mihai Ghigiu; officials of the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Department for Romanians Abroad and Department for Emergency Management.

The Consulate of Romania in Castellon de la Plana is in permanent dialogue with the persons who have reported possible cases of disappearance of Romanian citizens, as well as with those who have reported that they are in difficulty facing emergencies.
