The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) welcomes the convincing, historic victory recorded by the incumbent president, Maia Sandu, in the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova.
„The MAE congratulates the authorities in the Republic of Moldova for the impeccable organisation of the election, in a complicated context marked by massive external interference, manifested through disinformation, harmful propaganda, and systematic manipulation and destabilisation actions. Through their massive turnout at the polls, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have once again demonstrated a high sense of civic duty, responsibility, and democratic commitment, as well as maturity and discernment at a crucial moment for the future of the Republic of Moldova. Alongside the positive result recorded in the constitutional referendum of October 20, 2024, regarding the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, the reelection of President Maia Sandu reaffirms the strong support of citizens for the broad, essential democratic reforms that the reelected president and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have implemented with determination in recent years,” the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
According to the quoted source, the Republic of Moldova now has an extraordinary opportunity to accelerate its European path by consolidating the unprecedented progress made in the past four years.
„European integration is the only option that can ensure the prosperity and stability that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova desire and that will protect them from foreign interference. Romania will continue to act strategically and in the long term for the benefit of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova and will remain the most active and solid supporter of the European path of the Republic of Moldova,” the MAE highlights.
According to preliminary data compiled by the Central Electoral Commission, after counting votes from 99.86% of polling stations, Maia Sandu achieved a score of 55.41%, while her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received 44.59% of the votes.
