The National Electricity Transmission and System Operator Transelectrica recorded, in the first nine months of 2024, a net profit of 410 million RON, up 99% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange on Thursday.

In the first nine months of 2023, Transelectrica reported a net profit of 207 million RON.

The gross result increased to 448 million RON, in the period January-September 2024 (from 234 million RON in the first nine months of 2023), mainly due to the increase in the volume of energy charged at the tariffs approved by ANRE [the National Electricity Regulatory Authority], revenues from CPT transactions (own technological consumption), revenues from emergency aid (42 million RON), revenues from CPT capitalization (non-monetary) by 47 million RON, as well as other operating revenues that increased by 98 million RON.

„The gross result influenced by the profit tax of 38 million RON led to a net result at the end of January-September 2024 of 410 million RON, an increase compared to the first nine months of 2023 when it was 207 million RON, an influence mainly due to activities with allowed profit,” the report states.

Total operating revenues achieved in the first nine months of 2024 recorded an increase of 87pct compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 6.171 billion RON, in the context of the significant impact of revenues from zero-profit activities.

At the same time, total operating expenses (including depreciation) increased by 86%, to 5.739 billion RON, in the context of the significant impact of the increase in expenses from zero-profit activities.

In the first nine months of 2024, the total amount of electricity charged for services provided on the electricity market (38.32 TWh) recorded an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period of 2023 (the difference between the two periods being 0.9 TWh).

Investment expenses were, in the period January-September 2024, in the amount of 456.46 million RON, 55% higher than investment expenses in the first nine months of 2023 (293.8 million RON).

According to the same source, the zero-profit activities segment recorded a positive result in the first nine months of 2024, amounting to 8 million RON, compared to the negative result achieved in the same period in 2023.

At the same time, the revenues of the zero-profit activity recorded an increase mainly determined by the increase in revenues on the balancing market (+2.481 billion RON) due to the prices recorded at the balancing market level, simultaneously with the appreciation of revenues from technological system services (+140 million RON), at the tariff approved by ANRE, compared to the same period of the previous year, in the context of an increase in quantity by 2.3%.
