Romania remains firmly committed to the assumed Euro-Atlantic path, the option of the Romanian people to join the common space that values peace, democracy and freedom remains solid, as does the decision to make our own contribution to strengthening security in region, the Minister of Defense, Angel Tilvar, said on Tuesday.

The Minister of National Defense and the United States Ambassador in Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, visited on Tuesday the 57th Air Base in Mihail Kogalniceanu, the two having a meeting with a delegation made up of defense attachés from NATO member countries, accredited to Bucharest, who are on an informational visit to the 57th Air Base.

According to a press release from MApN sent to AGERPRES, Angel Tilvar expressed his appreciation for the high level of collaboration of NATO allies with Romania, which represents a concrete expression of solidarity and proof of the validity of the founding purpose of the Alliance, that of ensuring the defense to every state in the Euro-Atlantic area and to deter any aggression against allied territory.

„I have repeatedly met with military attachés from allied countries accredited in Bucharest, either in a bilateral format or in an allied framework, and I am glad to have the opportunity to meet you here, in the most important military base on the eastern flank of NATO. I send thanks, through you, to each of the countries you honorably represent, for their essential contributions to the strengthening defense on the Romanian sector of the Eastern flank of the Alliance. I felt the need to convey to all our allies that Romania remains firmly committed to the assumed Euro-Atlantic path, that the option of the Romanian people to join the common space that values peace, democracy and freedom remains solid, as well and the decision to make our own contribution to strengthening security in the region”, Minister Angel Tilvar said in the discussion with the military attachés.

Also, the officials met with the representatives of the leadership of the 57th Air Base and the allied military contingents deployed at Mihail Kogalniceanu.

Angel Tilvar and Ambassador Kavalec also met with Romanian, Spanish, American and French troops that are stationed in the Mihail Kogalniceanu base.
