The number of dwelling units put into use in Romania, in the first nine months of this year, was 42,312, down by 7,681 dwelling units, compared to the same period in 2023, according to provisional data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Overall, between January 1 and September 30, 2024, depending on the areas of residence, most housing units were put into use in urban areas, with a share of 56.6% of the total.
At the same time, the distribution by financing sources of completed housing reveals that, in the reference period, the number of housing units built from private funds decreased (-7,892), but the number of housing units built from public funds increased (+211).
According to the same source, in the first nine months of this year, the regional distribution highlights a decrease in the number of completed homes in all development regions, compared to the end of September 2023, as follows: Bucharest-Ilfov (-3,206 homes), Center (-1,450), Southeast (-1,258), Northwest (-571), Northeast (-529), Southwest Muntenia (-352), Southwest Oltenia (-250) and West (-65).
In the third quarter of this year, 16,376 dwellings units were put into use, down by 1,540 homes, compared to the same period in 2023.
INS data show that, by residence area, most buildings were built in urban areas (57.3%), while, depending on the financing funds, both the number of homes built from private funds (-1,506) and those from public funds (-34) decreased.
