Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu underscores that Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area will be a major benefit for the country’s economy and will enable faster travel within the European Union.

„#Romania fully accedes to the #Schengen area starting January 1st 2025, following today’s #JHA [Justice and Home Affairs Council] decision. A major benefit for our economy and faster journeys home for the millions of Romanians living and traveling in the #EU,” the Prime Minister wrote on social media platform X.

The EU interior ministers approved on Thursday morning, in Brussels, Romania’s and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area with land borders, starting from January 1, 2025.
