UDMR’s Kelemen Hunor calls on coalition partners to return to negotiation table

Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) President Kelemen Hunor on Thursday called on coalition partners formed after the parliamentary elections to return to the negotiation table, following the announcement made by the leader of the Social Democrats, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

„I ask all my colleagues in the coalition that was formed after the parliamentary elections to take a basin of cold water and put their feet in it. Everyone should calm down, and tomorrow we should all return to the table. This is the only good solution for Romania. So, Marcel Ciolacu, Ilie Bolojan, Elena Lasconi and I should continue the discussions tomorrow because any other option is a bad one and will not help solve Romania’s problems,” the UDMR leader told AGERPRES.

Regarding the fact that Marcel Ciolacu mentioned being criticised by some partners at the negotiation table, Kelemen Hunor pointed out that there had been „very difficult discussions.”

„There have been very difficult and, many times, even tough discussions in recent days. That is why I said everyone should put their feet in cold water. After that, we should return, because we are not talking about a party or the egos of one or another, we are talking about citizens. We are talking about our country. We need to return to the table. This is my invitation, my request, and my plea to my colleagues,” said the UDMR leader.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday that PSD is withdrawing from the discussions for forming the Executive and will vote in Parliament for a right-wing government.
