Average net salary in Romania advances to RON 5,388 lei in November 2024

The average net salary in Romania increased to RON 5,388 – about EUR1.084 – in November 2024, up RON 120 (+2.3%) on a monthly basis, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The average before tax salary was RON 8,825 in November, up RON 213 (+2.5%) from the the previous month.

The highest values of the average net salary were reported in information technology services, including computer services, at RON 12,423, and the lowest in the manufacture of clothing, at RON 3,058.

Compared with November 2023, the average net salary increased by 13.1%.

The real wage earnings index was 107.6% in November 2024 as against November 2023. The real wage gain index was 101.9% in November 2024 as against October 2024. Compared with October 1990, the real wage earnings index was 256.3%, 4.7 percentage points higher than in October 2024.

During the year there are fluctuations in wage earnings mainly determined by the granting of annual bonuses and holiday bonuses, especially in the months taken as a basis for comparison (December, March/April). They generate increases or decreases depending on the period in which they are granted, ultimately leading to the fading of fluctuations in monthly salary earnings throughout the year. Developments in the real wage earnings depends both on the fluctuations in the net average wage earnings and on the inflation rate, according to INS.

The most significant increases in the average net salary at the level of NACE Rev.2 sections/divisions were recorded as follows: by 13.6% in the manufacture of machinery, machinery and equipment, and by 13.0% in the manufacture of road transport vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.

The most significant decreases in the average net salary was 2.6% in crude oil and natural gas extraction.

In the public sector, there were increases in the November 2024 average net salary earnings from the previous month in education (+1.4%, as a result of the hourly payment of teachers). In the public administration, healthcare and social assistance, the average net salary decreased slightly from the previous month (-0.2% for each) (EUR 1 = RON 4.97).
