Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.4 degrees on the Richter scale occurred on Friday in Vrancea and Buzau counties, in the Vrancea seismic zone, according to information published by the National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development (INCDFP).

The first earthquake took place in Vrancea County at 1:00 AM, at a depth of 139.9 kilometres (km), and was recorded near the following cities: 46 km west of Focsani, 60 km north of Buzau, 66 km east of Sfantu Gheorghe, 76 km east of Brasov and 91 km northeast of Ploiesti.

The second earthquake, also with a magnitude of 3.4, occurred at 6:53 AM in Buzau County, at a depth of 140 kilometers. The earthquake took place near the following cities: 51 km west of Focsani, 52 km northwest of Buzau, 67 km southeast of Sfantu Gheorghe, 73 km east of Brasov and 81 km northeast of Ploiesti. The magnitude of this earthquake may be revised by seismologists in the coming period.

Since the beginning of February, Romania has experienced nine earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.4 to 4.4.

The most significant earthquake of 2024, with a magnitude of 5.4, occurred in Buzau County on September 16.
