The number of trolleybus trips in Bucharest was by 35% higher in 2024 compared to 2023, as the Solaris extended range trolleybuses entered the fleet of the Bucharest Public Transport Corporation, the city’s General Mayor Nicusor Dan announced.
Also, due to the extended autonomy of these vehicles, the trolleybus network was expanded by 50 kilometers, the Mayor wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
„We are marking one year since we introduced the Solaris Trollino extended range trolleybuses to the streets of Bucharest. Consequently, the number of trolleybus trips increased by 35% compared to 2023. (…) Also, in their first year of service, Trollino trolleys rode 3,600,000 kilometers, carrying over 17,000,000 passengers,” Nicusor Dan said, mentioning that the Solaris Trollino vehicles have increased comfort (air conditioning, audio-video information systems, facilities for people with disabilities) and zero emissions, and serve heavily used routes daily.
„They reach areas where there is no electrical contact network yet, providing an ecological solutions for urban transport. We will continue the development of electric transport by purchasing another 22 modern trolleybuses”, the General Mayor specified.
At the beginning of February, the Bucharest City Hall announced on the Electronic Public Procurement System a tender for the purchase of 22 trolleybuses of the 12-meter model, with a minimum range of 20 kilometers. Their total estimated value is RON 71,500,000. The project is financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
