Romania’s National Defence Minister Angel Tilvar had a meeting on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi with United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Defence Mohamed Bin Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, with discussions having focused on the security situation in regions of strategic interest to both states, as well as the prospects for strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, according to the National Defence Ministry (MApN).
Minister Angel Tilvar reiterated Romania’s commitment to developing relations with the United Arab Emirates, underscoring the importance of organising the Joint Military Cooperation Committee meeting as soon as possible. This platform is seen as essential for dialogue and coordination between the two sides in the defence and security areas, the source said.
The Romanian official also highlighted the country’s openness to enhancing the partnership with the United Arab Emirates, particularly in the areas of military modernisation and defence industry development.
The minister visited the stand of the Emirati company EDGE at the IDEX & NAVDEX 2025 International Conference. EDGE is a global leader in advanced technology, developing innovative solutions for defence and security. Discussions with EDGE representatives focused on identifying concrete collaboration opportunities between Romania’s defence industry and the UAE’s military technology sector, based on the needs of the Romanian Army.
Additionally, the Romanian delegation visited the stand of the Abu Dhabi-based company IRIDIUM, which specialises in providing integrated logistics support (ILS) solutions and data management.
According to MApN, economic cooperation between Romania and the United Arab Emirates continues to be an area with significant potential for development. In recent years, the UAE has ranked as Romania’s second-largest trading partner in the Gulf region and fifth in the Middle East and North Africa.
