Under a government decision adopted on Thursday, the budget for the preparation, organization and carrying out of Romania’s 2025 presidential election was set at over RON 1.186 billion, the Executive said in a release, stating that the money comes from the Budgetary Reserve Fund at the disposal of the government.

Additional amounts were provided for in the budgets of the Ministry of the Interior – RON 740.6 million; the Government’s General Secretariat – RON 20.138 million; the National Institute of Statistics, the National Administration of State Reserves and Special Affairs, and the Permanent Electoral Authority – RON 42.568 million; the Foreign Affairs Ministry – RON 352.438 million; and the Special Telecommunications Service – RON 30.6 million, the release notes.

By the same decision, the structure of the expenses required for the preparation, organization and carrying out of Romania’s presidential ballot was also adopted. Thus, within 60 days from the date the election results are published in the Official Journal of Romania, the central and local public administration authorities involved in the organization and conduct of the electoral process are required to report to the Permanent Electoral Authority the situation of the allocated amounts and the expenses incurred, separately by personnel expenses, material expenses and capital expenses.

At the same meeting, the Executive also approved a decision setting measures in place for the proper organization and conduct of the 2025 presidential election, detailing the duties and tasks of the Permanent Electoral Authority, the Ministry of the Interior, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Health Ministry, the National Institute of Statistics, the Special Telecommunications Service, prefects and mayors in the preparation, organization and conduct of the election.
