PM Ciolacu to meet EC President in Brussels on Friday

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will be in Brussels on Friday for consultations with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen regarding the renegotiation of Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as discussions on regional and global security, in the context of ongoing negotiations aimed at finding a solution to end the war in Ukraine, the Government informed.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the agenda of the visit in Brussels includes a one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as a plenary meeting between the Romanian government delegation and the European Commission delegation.

The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to Brussels includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Tanczos Barna and Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Bolos.

Regarding the renegotiation of Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the government delegation’s goal is to reach an agreement with Commission officials on renegotiating certain aspects related to the targets and milestones in the public investment and reform framework, so that Romania can fully absorb the funds allocated to it through the European recovery and resilience mechanism, the quoted source mentioned.

„We are strongly motivated to mobilise ourselves to recover the gaps that, unfortunately, have been registered so far in attracting these funds. However, there are several aspects within the PNRR that need to be adapted to current realities and a reshaping of investments with lower co-financing,” said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu before the working visit to Brussels, as quoted in the statement.

The head of the Executive believes that the years 2025 and 2026 are crucial for Romania to fully benefit from the funding from the PNRR, and in this context, he will closely monitor the deadlines necessary to attract these funds.
