Calin Georgescu adamant to pursue his presidential bid: We won’t bend the knee

Published on

Calin Georgescu declared on Wednesday evening upon leaving the headquarters of the Prosecutor General’s Office that he will „surely” run for president and that „the American sanctions will clarify the situation in Romania as well.”

After almost five hours of hearings, Georgescu was greeted by his wife Cristela and hundreds of supporters on the steps of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

„Nothing surprises me anymore. This is all reminiscent to me of the communist mentality and system from the 1950s. There’s no difference. Yet we are moving forward. It’s for sure that we, the people, are this power, we are the energy, we are Romania. We won’t bend the knee under any circumstance. This is no surprise to me, as I was saying, and we will carry on for freedom. I will [run again] for sure,” Georgescu said, to the applause of his fans.

He added that „everybody knows what is happening in Romania with this system”, and that the tremendous corruption worldwide will be exposed, and „American sanctions will clarify the situation in Romania as well.”

„When they annulled the vote on December 6 they did us a great favor. Corruption was laid bare live. All of humanity knows what this Romanian system is about. I can only welcome this initiative triggered by desperation. It is not rooted just here, it is in combination with Brussels. It is a position that has shown us that the system is functioning as long as it still can, but it is taking its final breaths. But, categorically, we know that it is not just about the lackeys on duty here, from within (pointing to the Prosecutor’s Office – ed. note), no. This is also about what is happening in Brussels. And what America does today through President Trump and VP Vance is precisely the clear proof that we are on the right track, that all this huge corruption at global level will be exposed, and American sanctions will for certain clarify the situation in Romania too,” Georgescu said.

Asked by a reporter if he will be allowed to run, Georgescu replied: „Just look around. Nothing matters anymore, except for the Romanian people.”

Former ultranationalist presidential candidate Calin Georgescu has been officially charged by the Prosecutor General’s Office with six counts, including actions against the constitutional order, initiating or establishing a fascist, racist or xenophobic organization, and promoting the cult of persons guilty of genocide. He was placed under judicial control for 60 days, as well as under multiple bans, including traveling abroad.
