I believe USR must come to power and support Crin Antonescu in presidential elections (PM Ciolacu)

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, leader of the PSD, declared on Thursday that he believes that the USR should come to power alongside the PSD, PNL, UDMR and minorities and support the coalition’s sole candidate in the presidential elections, Crin Antonescu.

„The motion of censure has no chance of passing. It doesn’t have even a single chance of passing. I also saw the announcement of the USR parliamentarians that they will not vote for this motion, for one reason – that we are bringing instability to Romania. They can vote, I invite them to vote, because the motion will not pass anyway, even if they vote too. However, I must state that it is a gesture of normality, from my point of view. I believe that USR must also come to power, alongside PSD, PNL, UDMR and the national minorities,” Ciolacu said on Romania TV.

He mentioned that USR could enter government on condition that it gives up its own presidential candidate and supports the coalition’s sole candidate, Crin Antonescu.

„I believe that this is a difficult moment, not only nationally, but also within the EU and it is a difficult moment globally and at this moment we must overcome all the pride, all the things that divide us and see why the Romanians sent us to Parliament, why the Romanians pay us for the temporary positions we hold and I believe that it would be an act of unity and I would like all political forces, including the USR, to have a single candidate in these elections. We already have an agreement and we have designated a single candidate, Mr. Crin Antonescu”, Marcel Ciolacu also argued.
