EBRD lends UniCredit Leasing Corporation 50 million euros to support SMEs in Romania

Published on

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) grants a loan worth 50 million euros to UniCredit Leasing Corporation, in order to support micro, small and medium enterprises (SME) clients in Romania, reads a press release from the banking institution, sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

„The loan will support these companies to maintain uninterrupted access to financing, at the same time diversifying the customer’s financing base and helping them become more competitive and resilient. The credit line will contribute to the expansion of leasing financing to companies in Romania, encouraging them to invest in high-performance standards, technologies and services, allowing them to become more competitive and more energy efficient,” the quoted source said.

Part of the use of the loan will be used for the green objectives of the EBRD, of aligning by January 1, 2023 all activities to the objective of the Paris Agreement on limiting climate change to 1.5 degrees Celsius and assigning a green component to the little more than half of its investments until 2025.

The loan granted to UniCredit Leasing Corporation is part of the Financial Intermediary Framework (FIF) of the EBRD.

In Romania, the EBRD focuses on financing infrastructure, especially in the regions, on increasing the productivity of the private sector and on continuing the development of the financial sector and capital markets. Until now, the institution has financed 497 projects in Romania, with a total of over 10 billion euros.
