Police opens criminal case for destruction after protesters overturn TV station vehicle

The police opened a criminal case for destruction on Sunday evening after protesters at the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) overturned a television station’s vehicle.

„Following this event, police officers from the General Directorate of the Bucharest Police have initiated, ex officio, a criminal investigation for the offense of destruction. Considering that, regarding this offense, according to the legal framework, criminal action is initiated based on the complaint of the injured party, representatives of the Capital Police have contacted the journalists of the TV network, directing them to the police headquarters to complete this procedural act,” a Bucharest Police release reads.

According to the same source, the police will review the existing footage and will take the necessary legal actions.

Earlier, the Capital Gendarmerie announced that some protesters, supporters of candidate Calin Georgescu, had used pyrotechnic materials. Additionally, various street furniture items were set on fire.

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) announced on Sunday evening that the registration of Calin Georgescu’s candidacy was rejected.
