Tanase (BVB): Romania has very solid investor community on capital market

Romania has become a competitive market, with a very solid community of investors on the stock exchange, Adrian Tanase, CEO of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), told on Tuesday the launch conference of a new ETF that tracks the main index of the Slovenian capital market.

„I want to congratulate Intercapital Asset Management for their consistency in proposing products for the Romanian public. This is very good, because Romania has become a very strong part of the buyers, with a very solid investor community, both as individuals and institutional investors. We have an increasingly strong market and, therefore, we have to offer competitive products to our public. I am very happy that Intercapital Asset Management, a very large independent asset manager, has seen this potential. This is completely in line with our strategy to develop the capital market, because I believe from now on the focus is on offering products, whatever they are: fixed income, open-end funds, ETFs, even REITs. In fact, we are working to regulate REITs in Romania,” said Tanase.

The BVB official noted that the listing of a new ETF is an international product, „something new for Romanian products”.

„The listing is very well synchronized. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding last year. There are eight exchanges that need to identify consolidation initiatives in this region. I really believe that there is a huge potential here in this region and that this is not so far from being materialized. There are countries with a smaller GDP, smaller populations than this region, but with much larger capital markets,” mentioned Adrian Tanase

In his turn, Ivan Kurtovic, CEO of InterCapital Asset Management, emphasized that the investment management industry is undergoing a major change and ETFs, low-cost and passive strategies, and digital applications are taking full center stage so that many clients can invest.

„Almost one year after the listing of our Romanian ETF here at the Bucharest Stock Exchange, we are delighted to be here again with the listing of our Slovenian ETF. Basically, since introducing our Slovenian ETF at the end of 2020, it has had a really extraordinary performance of almost 210%. Our commitment to offering innovative and attractive investment products on local exchanges remains strong. This is evident today, with the listing of our Slovenian ETF and, moreover, with plans to list some new products in the coming months, subject of course to approvals. The investment management industry as such is going through a major change. Thus, both ETFs, so low-cost and passive strategies, as well as digital applications are taking complete center stage for many clients to invest. As of yesterday [Monday, March 17, 2025, editor’s note], all ETFs that are listed on the Slovenian Stock Exchange are available to the global public through the Interactive Brokers platform,” Kurtovic said.

InterCapital Asset Management launched, on Tuesday, at the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) a new ETF, following last year’s ETF, which tracks the performance of the BET-TRN index, the net total return variant of the BET index.

The instrument seeks to replicate the SBITOP TR index (SBITOP total gross return index)), managed by the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE), which reflects the performance of the most traded new companies on the regulated market of the LJSE and is adjusted to reflect the reinvestment of gross dividends paid by them.
