The „Eugen Ionescu” doctoral and postdoctoral research scholarship programme, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and jointly managed with the Agency of the Francophone Universities (AUF) for the 2024-2025 edition, will be followed by 110 people from 24 Francophone countries, according to the MAE.

Following the call for applications for the 2024-2025 academic year, launched by AUF on November 7, 2024, 705 applications were submitted, which were scientifically evaluated by experts designated from universities and higher education institutions in Romania, members of AUF and enrolled in this programme.

At the end of the selection process, 110 scholarships were awarded (71 doctoral and 39 postdoctoral) to candidates from 24 Francophone countries: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Chad, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, France, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Serbia, Togo, Tunisia and Vietnam.

The scholarship programme will take place from May 1 to July 31, in one of the 29 universities and higher education institutions in Romania, members of AUF, enrolled in this edition of the programme.

On May 23, 2007, the Government of Romania, following the commitment made during the 11th Francophonie Summit (Bucharest, September 2006), decided to establish and fund a Doctoral and Postdoctoral Scholarship Program, named after Eugen Ionescu, to honour the memory of the Romanian-French writer, an emblematic figure of 20th-century literature and a major representative of the theatre of the absurd.

Funded by the Government of Romania through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and jointly managed with the Agency of the Francophone Universities, the Eugen Ionescu Program allows young Francophone doctoral students and researchers from all over the world to benefit from a three-month research scholarship in one of the partner higher education institutions in Romania.
