Consumer watchdog to carry out inspections into electricity suppliers until mid-June

Published on

The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) will carry out, for three months, control actions at national level to verify how the legal provisions on consumer protection are respected in the process of supplying electricity.

„During the period April 17 – June 16, 2025, the National Authority for Consumer Protection (…) will carry out a large-scale control action at national level, aiming to verify how the legal provisions regarding consumer protection are respected in the process of supplying electricity. The control action mainly targets how electricity suppliers respect consumer rights in the contractual relationship and in the provision of services. Essential aspects related to the transparency of offers, the correctness of the information presented, as well as the compliance of contractual clauses with the legislation in force will be verified,” reads an ANPC press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

According to ANPC, the main objectives of the control include: respecting consumer rights (in particular: clarity and consistency of price offers presented; correct information on the tariffs charged, including VAT and other taxes; avoiding unjustified differences between online and physical offers; methods of refunding amounts paid in advance in the event of a change of supplier; correct information on the terms and procedures related to changing supplier), identifying potential unfair commercial practices in the process of concluding and carrying out contracts, verifying the existence of possible abusive clauses in contracts concluded with consumers and detecting any violations of consumer rights in the contractual relationship with electricity suppliers.

Representatives of the Control Authority specify that, through these inspections, they reaffirm their commitment to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, ensuring that essential services, such as the supply of electricity, are carried out in accordance with legal norms and in the spirit of fair and transparent competition.
