Interim President Ilie Bolojan said Monday in Oradea that he came to the celebration of 106 years of Romanian administration to honor the memory of those who laid a brick in the foundation of Romania and to honor the Romanian Army, led at the time, at the entrance to the city, by General Traian Mosoiu.
The former mayor of Oradea and president of County Council Bihor recalled the day of April 20, 1919, when, also on Easter Day, the Romanian Army, led by General Traian Mosoiu, entered the city, establishing peace in these territories, protecting the Romanians and introducing order in a period of chaos. He recalled that in memory of General Traian Mosoiu, in addition to the bust erected near the Balcescu Park, another one is located the lobby of the Oradea City Hall, to „salute” and empower all those who work in the service of the people.
Moreover, Ilie Bolojan added, other „milestones” of the dignity of our nation can also be found in Oradea Unirii Square, just as 100 years ago, in the statues of the Orthodox bishop Roman Ciorogariu and the Greek-Catholic bishop Radu Demetriu, around whom the local community gathered, as well as the statues of Iuliu Maniu, King Ferdinand, Queen Maria and Ionel Bratianu.
„As Roman Ciorogariu rightly said, the . It is therefore appropriate to remember the merits of these people, the respect for our Army on every occasion, and that is what we are doing today,” said Ilie Bolojan.
In the opening of his speech, held in front of the statue of General Traian Mosoiu, interim president Bolojan proposed a moment of silence in memory of Pope Francis, „one of the great friends of Romania”.
Oradea celebrated on Monday 106 years since the establishment of the Romanian administration in the city, through a series of commemorative and festive events.
The dedicated program began with a Te Deum in the Moon Church in Oradea Unirii Square, officiated by Orthodox Bishop Sofronie Drincec and a group of priests. Then followed the procession to the statue of General Traian Mosoiu, where a military ceremony took place, with speeches by the interim president Ilie Bolojan, the mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta, and the historian Gabriel Moisa. The presidential candidate Crin Antonescu also participated in the festivities.
„The entry of the Romanian troops into Oradea, led by General Traian Mosoiu, meant more than a military act. It was a sign that history was finally on the right track. It was a return to the natural flow of things, a gesture that restored our community’s confidence in a common future, in a united, stable and dignified country,” said Mayor Florin Birta.
There followed the ceremony of the laying of wreaths, wreaths and flowers in memory of those who integrated Oradea within the borders of Greater Romania, then the parade of the honor detachment and the return to the Unirii Square.
Around 5,000 citizens of Oradea gathered in the wide open space of the central square, which then hosted two exceptional artistic moments of Michael the Brave 30th Guards Brigade: a demonstration of precision and synchronization in the handling of weapons by the Drill Team and a concert by the military brass band.
At the end of the festivities, a burst of fireworks colored the sky in the colors of the Romanian flag.
The parade of the Guard of Honor was led by the commander of the parade, Brigadier General Sergiu Mungiu, commander of the Michael the Brave 30th Guards Brigade.
The people of Oradea were invited not only in the city center, but also at the Airport, where they had the opportunity, between 12 and 15, to see a unique exhibition: two military aircraft, C-130 Hercules and C-27J Spartan, of the Romanian Air Force, which could be visited.
