The Ministry of National Defense announced on Wednesday that it is organizing, between April 24 and 29, a series of activities, on the occasion of War Veterans Day, in gratitude for the courage, sacrifice and devotion of the Romanians who fought in World War II.
According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defense, within the „Honor to War Veterans” Campaign, now in its fifth edition, symbolic packages will be offered to 437 veterans and 13 war widows from Romania, as well as to the only living war veteran from the Republic of Moldova.
The gift-wrapping event will take place on Thursday, starting at 10:00, at the Palace of the National Military Circle, with the participation of representatives of central and local authorities, the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense, civil society, as well as military students and pupils. The activity is organized with the support of the ONOR Association – People, Nation, Honor, Respect and the „Alaturi de Eroi” Association, the cited source mentions.
„On Monday, from 12:00, at the Palace of the National Military Circle, the solemn Assembly of the National Association of War Veterans (ANVR) and the ceremony of conferring the National Order ‘For Merit’, in the rank of Knight, with the sign of peace, for the military, to retired Brigadier General Ion Dănilă, president of the ANVR, will take place. The distinction will be granted as a sign of appreciation for exceptional professional conduct, as well as for the activity of developing and editing memorial works and evocations of facts regarding the battles of the Romanian Army in the two world wars,” the Ministry of National Defense reports.
According to the press release, on Tuesday, at 9:30 am, at the Monument of the Heroes of the Fatherland, located in front of the „Carol I” National Defense University, a military and religious ceremony of laying wreaths, wreaths and bouquets of flowers will be organized, dedicated to War Veterans Day.
The activities carried out within the „Honor of War Veterans” Campaign are possible with the help of partners CEC Bank, Unilever, Dr.Max, Romanian Post, the Romanian Army Charity Association „Camarazii”, Bimbo Romania, Transelectrica, Carpatina, Boromir, Alexandrion Group, Leviatan Group, Scandia Food and Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii.
