Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday hailed the partnership with the American company SpaceX for the development of a new satellite technology.
„I am pleased that we are partnering with a leading American company, SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, to develop new satellite technology. This partnership is entering now a new phase after the favorable results of the tests carried out by the company in Romania,” said the prime minister, at the beginning of the government meeting.
The prime minister announced on Tuesday, on X that, following the „positive results” of the tests, the Government fully supports the development of new NGSO (Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit) satellite technologies.
„In light of the positive results of the first test of its kind in the world, conducted by SpaceX in Romania, the Government fully supports the development of new NGSO satellite technologies and mandates ANCOM to analyze and actively promote the revision of current international regulations regarding EPFD limits,” wrote Marcel Ciolacu.
In October 2024, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania (ANCOM) announced that together with the Ministry of National Defence and SpaceX the first real-world test was conducted to demonstrate that the Starlink non-geostationary satellite systems (NGSO) can operate without interfering with the geostationary satellite (GSO) networks.
