PSD (Social Democratic Party) spokesman Lucian Romascanu on Monday stated that resignation, primarily from the party, is an option for Marcel Ciolacu considering the results of the presidential elections.
„It is time to refrain from definitive comments not even half a day after the polls closed and to see what each of our gestures could trigger. Now we are talking about the situation we are in after these elections, before we had no urge to analyze what this act, ultimately, of punishing the political class means. We are in this situation, let’s see how we get out of it. (…) Of course, we all have to analyze ourselves (…) Mr. Ciolacu will do it himself. It is always an option to resign when you are in a position where you have the results that I have seen. Mr. Ciolacu has done it once before,” Romascanu told Digi 24 private TV channel.
Asked if he does not rule out Marcel Ciolacu’s resignation from the head of the Government and the PSD, Romascanu replied: „First of all, I am speaking in my capacity as president of the PSD, but, of course, it is possible to discuss it also in the capacity of prime minister. I ask you something else. This is probably the normal gesture and you are probably thinking about it yourself. What’s next? Because always asking for heads, continuing to maintain this atmosphere of revenge in the Romanian public, I don’t know who it helps. I am convinced that political and governmental adjustments will be made, but I think this is the most inappropriate moment now, when the countdown has just ended. Let’s think about what happens to Romania in the next two weeks, let’s think about what happens to Romania after these two weeks.”
