The National Defence Ministry (MApN) announced that on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, its radar surveillance systems detected a group of aerial drones in the area of Ukrainian locality Vylkove, at the border with Romania.
Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces took off at 05:59 from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti for reconnaissance missions.
At 01:27, the RO-ALERT message was issued for the northern area of the Tulcea county.
According to the MApN, no aerial vehicles breached the national air space.
At 02:35, the air raid alert was lifted and the aircraft returned to their home base.
The Ministry of National Defence maintains a high level of vigilance at all times and ensures strict monitoring of national air, sea and land space.
„We are in constant contact with our allies, exchanging real-time operational information and taking decisive action to guarantee the security of Romania and the Eastern Flank of NATO,” the MApN conveyed.
Poland mobilized its own and NATO air defence systems on Wednesday to shoot down drones in its airspace following a Russian air attack on Ukraine. This marked Warsaw’s first direct involvement in the war of the neighboring country, calling the airspace violation „an act of aggression,” Reuters, AFP and EFE informed.
