President Nicusor Dan on Wednesday stated that he is „not at all” satisfied with the situation in education and that he promised the leaders of the unions in this field that there will be assessments made based on the figures after two months of the start of the school year.
„I obviously want each of us to put the interests of children first (…) My promise was that we will assess, as I said, with the figures on the table, with the opinion of all the parties involved, after two months of the start of the school year,” the head of state told the TVR1 public television broadcaster.
Asked if he was pleased with the state of education, Nicusor Dan replied: „I am far from pleased.”
On Monday, the president received the representatives of the education unions to discuss with them, in the context in which the first day of school began with a large protest in the capital city.
Nicusor Dan said that he noticed, during this discussion, that „the opinion that the representatives of the unions have is different from the opinion that the ministry [of education – editor’s note] has”.
During the same discussion, he pointed out, changes were labeled by some as „catastrophic” and by others as „manageable”.
