The Chinese Embassy sent a message to ECOPOLITIC.RO on Thursday, following statements made by the Romanian president, who said in a press conference that „we cannot abruptly sever economic ties with China.” Chen Feng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania, said they are willing to work with all parties in Romania, proposing that the two countries promote exchanges and strengthen trade cooperation, including promoting friendship between the two peoples.
During the press briefing on the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which presented the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), H.E. Mr. Chen Feng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania, answered questions from the Romanian press.
When asked by ECOPOLITIC.RO, the Chinese Ambassador conveyed a message regarding relations between China and Romania:
„Cooperation between China and Romania, or between China and the European Union, is comprehensive.
From a commercial point of view, the annual trade volume between China and Romania has exceeded $10 billion for four consecutive years. Last year, this figure reached $12.4 billion.
As for the trade volume between China and the European Union, this annual figure has reached over $780 billion per year. At present, China is the largest importer of European products and the third largest export market for the EU.
Romania is the third country in the world to have established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, 76 years ago. Over the years, bilateral relations have been characterized by mutual respect and equal treatment, and these bilateral relations have developed steadily.
In the next stage, we propose that the two countries further promote exchanges and strengthen trade cooperation in order to achieve more pragmatic results. We must promote friendship between the two peoples.
We must promote friendship between the two peoples, thus raising the broad partnership of cooperation between the two peoples to a new level,” the ambassador said.
On Wednesday, President Nicuşor Dan said about China’s presence in the Country’s Defense Strategy that „it is an important player in the world, especially in the economic area, and Romania’s interactions in this economic area must take into account its national interest,” adding that „we cannot abruptly break economic relations with China.”
The head of state also pointed out that, even though the word „China” does not appear very often in the strategy, it comes up in many places, and when we talk about critical resource chains, it is obvious that this word is a big dot there.
