Romanian Prime Minister: Corrections to be made so that pensions don’t exceed wages

Published on

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca declared on Wednesday in Petresti – southern Dambovita County, that according to the ordinance adopted by the government, financial discipline corrections will be made so that pensions do not exceed wages, according to Agerpres.

„It is very clear that through this ordinance we must undertake to operate the necessary financial discipline corrections, so that pensions are not higher than wages; there will be a gradual approach to the age criterion, which caused certain fears in the system, there won’t be an abrupt decision in this regard. As such, each of us, when we reach a certain age, regardless of where we carry out our activity, we also reach a certain professional wisdom which entails this duty – at least as far as personal consciousness is involved – to give back a minimum of professional knowledge to the system that formed us and which offered us the inputs for everything we achieved in life. And this is very simple, regardless of whether it’s a civilian or military system, because we must leave a legacy behind. You cannot leave a legacy other than by sharing it with those who belong to the generation that will take our place tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” the Prime Minister told a press conference at the end of a working visit to the Iveco factory in Petresti, where he was accompanied by Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marcel Ciolacu.

PM Ciuca explained that the World Bank suggests the government to keep military pensions in their current form and that he insists on reiterating this message because „rumors” have triggered „a wave of attitudes and decisions” that are not in line with reality.

„I think the same applies to the staff of the Justice Ministry,” Ciuca also said.
