Speaker Ciolacu: Recovery process of Romanian defence industry needs to be sped up

Published on

Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday in Petresti – southern Dambovita County, during a visit to a local military truck assembly plant, that the recovery process of the Romanian defence industry needs to be sped up, according to Agerpres.

„Sometimes we wonder why certain figures, such as direct investments in Romania, have increased so much. But after visiting such a facility, we realize why they increased by almost 21 percent from last year, as this year’s direct foreign investments amount to 6.5 billion. (…) Companies must keep this partnership with the Romanian state and local authorities,” said Ciolacu.

The 9,000 sqm facility in Petresti was commissioned in April last year and has a capacity of 440 vehicles per year, with five production lines. The investment amounted to 50 million euros and is part of the offset arrangement related to the contract for providing the Romanian Army with vehicles produced by Iveco Defence.

Marcel Ciolacu emphasized that this is a successful business, as everything produced here remains in the Army’s inventory, and that this is an example of best practice.

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, accompanied by Speaker Marcel Ciolacu and Dambovita County authorities were on a working visit to Petresti on Wednesday.
